  • Notes: Mt. Fuji is a sacred mountain in Japan. Fuji-san is 3,776.24 meters (12,289 feet) high. The kanji (Japanese words) for Fuji mean “abundant” and “wealth.” Mt. Fuji is climbed as a spiritual pilgrimage. When I was in Japan, the peak was obscured the whole time I was in Tokyo (I had specifically requested a room facing the peak). This oil was done on New Year’s Day (2019). Anyone who has painted Fuji-san knows it is almost as if the kami (gods) who inhabit the mountain are allowing you to paint it. I think luck was with me and they said, “Yes.” So, here is my oil of Fuji-san.¬† Gassho (a reverent “thank you”) to all the mountain’s kami.
