Title Storm Over Tomales Bay
Medium: Watercolor o Strathmore 32 lb rough Newsprint paper
Size: 14 x 24 in/45.7 x 61 com
Notes: Tomales Bay sits at an odd angle north of San Francisco in Marin County with the San Andreas Fault on the Pacific Ocean end. The Bay is shallow on the inland end and becomes more turbulent as the ocean is approached on the other end. The Pt. Reyes National Seashore is to the south-south west of the Bay and there is a California State Park that touches the Bay (Heart’s Desire State Park – see my oil painting of Heart’s Desire Beach here).
When weather rolls in the waters of the Bay become turbulent with mixed colors, flowing and blending together in a dazzling kaleidoscopic pattern. The wind pushes the waters so with the rain visibility is often problematic. It can seem you’re in an alternative reality where Nature is speaking and in control.
I love painting this Bay. I reminds me of so much of what is unique and magical about Northern California.
